A guardianship or conservatorship can remove every right a person has at once: where they live, who they see, what happens to their money, and what is done to their body. It can be imposed in a brief hearing, sometimes before the person has a lawyer, occasionally before they even know it is happening.
Once it is in place, the estate frequently pays for everything — including the fees of the professionals administering it, and sometimes the fees of the lawyers fighting the family that objects. Accounts get drained by the process itself. Adult children are told they may not visit. People die under orders they never agreed to.
Almost nobody is watching. These proceedings draw no press, generate no public outrage, and are frequently sealed. Protect Freedom is being built because the absence of scrutiny is the whole problem.
None of these are open yet. We are publishing them now so that the people who need them can tell us we got it wrong before we build the thing.
